Language Arts:
M: Creative writing. Analyze poetry. HW: finish ‘poem tour’ if not done in class
T: Vocab #10. Grammar. Poetry & fables. HW: make ‘boxes’ for Vocab #10
W: Vocabulary practice. Poetry & fables. HW: none.
TH: (early release- P 1,2,3) Practice interpreting functional text. HW: none. Reminder: Parent-Teacher Conferences today! (contact counselor for an appointment)
F: (early release- P 4,5,6) Same as Thursday. HW: none.
Honors: same as above. Literature selections, analysis, vocabulary, grammar, etc, will vary from regular language arts.
Goals:
The student will:
• Evaluate themes and literary techniques in a work of literature
• Analyze structural elements of poetry
• Identify and apply various types of figurative language
• Understand and apply techniques for skimming and reading to find main idea facts
• Improve grammar skills with exercises and drills
• Improve vocabulary through the study of Greek and Latin roots.

• S1, C4, PO4: idioms and other figurative language
• S1, C5, PO1: read fluently
• S1, C6, PO7: use appropriate reading strategies
