Week 28 Activities and Homework (March 8-12, 2010)

Language Arts:

M: DUE: poetry samplers. Discuss poems. Grammar. HW: read for independent reading log.

T: Discuss poetry and fables. HW: finish up independent reading log.

W: DUE: independent reading log for 3rd quarter (300 pages, summaries, parent signature). Expository and persuasive text practice. HW: work on book report sandwich.

TH: Field trip for Team 8-3 to the World Wildlife Zoo! HW: work on book report sandwich AND find children’s picture book to bring to class.

F: DUE: book report sandwich AND bring a children’s picture book to class. Discuss books. HW: none. Happy spring break!!!

Honors:
-same as above. Poetry selections, vocabulary, activities, and discussion topics will vary from regular language arts.

The student will:
• Evaluate themes and literary techniques in a work of literature
• Analyze structural elements of poetry
• Identify and apply various types of figurative language
• Understand and apply techniques for skimming and reading to find main idea facts
• Improve grammar skills with exercises and drills
• Improve vocabulary through the study of Greek and Latin roots.
